Paula Montgomery, the "Paula" in Paula's Kit Club
was a drawing and painting major at UCLA and
received her B.A. in Studio Art in 1981. She then went on to get her California Teaching Credentials
in both art and math. While teaching art and Geometry
at Burbank High School in Burbank, California, Paula and her
husband, Chuck, started Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers, an art rubber stamp company. When Rubber Baby
started taking more and more time to run, Chuck - also a teacher - and Paula quit their jobs and
moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where, 2 summers before, they had purchased a house. (Paula often tells
people that they went on vacation to Colorado and instead of a t-shirt, they bought a house).
Together they ran Rubber Baby for a total of 17 years until, in 2006, after realizing that there
was more to life than working 16 hour days, they sold Rubber Baby. Paula started a spin-off by creating
Paula's Kit Club - an extension of the kits she had
put together periodically with Rubber Baby. Chuck passed away 6 days after suffering a brain aneurysm in April 2007 leaving Paula to run the kit club on her own.
Paula is staying busy with her 2 Basenji - Olive and Enzo (Rhubarb passed away in January 2008) - and Manx cat, Milo, and
running the kit club. Her hobbies
include running, cooking, watching movies, collecting ephemera and, of course, stamping.
Paula made 7 appearances on The Carol Duvall Show on HGTV and had the first 3 cards she did in
her new studio published in Somerset Magazine and Somerset Gallery. The theme was "Blue".
Here are some more recent cards Paula made for her friends and family for Valentine's Day and Easter
of 2007.
Also, here is Paula's entry for a Faux Family Album swap she was asked to contribute to in early
2007.
And, here is the 4 panels of a book Paula made for Holly when here wonderful dog, Winston, died
in early 2007.
Here is Paula's mission statement for her exclusive kit club:
”My kits will provide a way to offer my club members coordinated items based on a theme
that will change each month. While there are lots of scrapbooking components in the kits and
scrapbookers will have a field day with them, I am gearing these kits to appeal to card makers
and rubber stampers and paper artists.
My goal is to find unique products - papers, ribbons, embellishments, collage materials etc.
that are coordinated around a theme each month. I have my degree in drawing and painting and,
hopefully, my art skills will be evident in my color and pattern choices.
These will not be inexpensive kits but I'm a firm believer in ‘you get what you pay for’.
I will be using only the highest quality materials from companies that demand excellence.
I will be ordering from over 75 companies (not each month!) to ensure variety in each kit.
I hope that all the materials I select along with the limited edition rubber stamp
(only kit members get it!) and coordinated collage sheet, culled from my vast ephemera
collection, to go with each kit will be a catalyst for your artistic endeavors, whatever
they may be.”
